A Separation

Set in contemporary Iran, A Separation is a compelling drama about the dissolution of a marriage. Simin wants to leave Iran with her husband Nader and daughter Termeh. Simin sues for divorce when Nader refuses to leave behind his Alzheimer-suffering father. Her request having failed, Simin returns to her parents' home, but Termeh decides to stay with Nader. When Nader hires a young woman to assist with his father in his wife's absence, he hopes that his life will return to a normal state. However, when he discovers that the new maid has been lying to him, he realizes that there is more on the line than just his marriage.

Event Plan

We'll go for dinner around 7pm, before the show, at Cafe Borronne (order and pay at the counter - due to the large group size we'll have to spread out across multiple tables). Showtime is 8.30. If you'd like to join us for dinner, please note so in your RSVP.

I wasn't able to join the group last night but I got to see the movie this afternoon. I loved it. Very interesting story, direction, and great actors too, even the children.

What a movie! The amount of dilemma and difficult situations, the choice that the charcters are faced with, and in between the acting parties the innocence of old age and childhood - a tremendous achievement. The performances were great across the board. Thanks everybody for joining us!

I thought the movie was wonderful, and I really enjoyed talking with the people I met.

Thanks for arranging the event Stephen. Really enjoyed the food and conversation at Café Borrone pre-theater. I would have wished to come away as excited about the movie as I anticipated, but that was not the case. Came away instead with hmm, that was interesting but not enough to recommend it to others. Definitely got an education about the Iranian lower and middle class culture, deep religious values and insane necessity to sue everyone for everything because you can. And hoping that as a culture and nationality they show each other even slightly more affection that we got to see.

Powerful movie of real life chaos and beauty at once. Many versions of the "truth." Really loved it. Thanks for discount tix, Stefan. Cafe Barrone would be better in warm weather for a group outdoors
