ABOUT THIS OPERA

• This opera by Jules Massenet (1842-1912) in 5 acts, is set in France in 1721
• Libretto by Henri Meilhac and Philippe Gille, after the novel L'histoire du chevalier des Grieux et de Manon Lescaut by the Abbé Prévost.
• First performance by the Paris Opéra-Comique at the Salle Favart on 19th January 1884.

Massenet’s adaptation of Prévost’s Manon Lescaut proved to be such a success, that Massenet was considered the most important French composer of operas during the closing decades of the 19th Century. More importantly, Manon remains in the standard repertoire to this day.

The Opera is set in France during the reign of Louis XV

Anna Netrebko’s dazzling portrayal of the tragic heroine in Laurent Pelly’s new production travels to the Met from the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
Piotr Beczala and Paulo Szot also star, with the Met’s Principal Guest Conductor Fabio Luisi on the podium.

You can park in the covered parking under the theater by entering from the Wolfe entrance, or you can park in the Sears outdoor parking and walk through the mall to the theater

MEETING TIME
• These performances get full very quickly. So get your ticket ahead of time and please be punctual.
• I usually arrive between 8:15 and 8:30.
• I recommend you arrive no later than 8:35 and meet me in line so that we can sit together.
• Theater patrons frown on holding too many seats so arrive early.
• You will find me on the first row just above the center of the theater walkway.
• Doors open at 8:45.
• Please indicate in your RSVP you have your ticket in hand.
